Frequently Asked Questions

How does Samfora work?

Just like you have an online account for payments and savings, Samfora is an account for your generosity. We help you find, compare and support organizations you believe in. All in one place, completely free.

Does it cost anything to give via Samfora?

No. When you give 100 SEK via Samfora, the entire amount goes to the organization you've chosen to support. Any bank and card fees from external payment providers are covered by the nonprofit, not you.

Is it safe to donate through Samfora?

Yes. All traffic on Samfora is encrypted (SSL/TLS), and our payment services meet the PCI DSS standard.

When it comes to your data, we follow our promise of donor rights: your personal data, your data and your privacy are always under your control. No nonprofit gets access to more than you choose to share.

Read more in our Terms of Service & Privacy Policy

How do you make money?

Our revenue comes from a separate service, Samfora.io, a modern data platform and CRM system for nonprofits. The service is separate and is not required for organizations to receive payments through us on Samfora.org. Samfora.org is and remains free. We never charge donors or nonprofits for any feature on the donation platform.

Our long term goal is to free up 400 million SEK for charity every year, by halving the industry's transaction and system costs from 7% to 3%. That is how we can run samfora.org for free while making the sector more cost efficient.

Do you sell my data?

No. We never sell your data, neither to organizations, partners nor third parties.

When you make a donation, you can choose to share details (for example email or personal identity number for tax deduction) with the organization you support. This only happens if you actively give your consent, and you can change or withdraw it at any time in your settings. We use anonymized donor data to improve the service.

For details, read our Terms of Service & Privacy Policy

Will you start with marketing and advertising on the platform?

No, we do not charge to promote content. However, we reserve the right to curate content editorially during our own campaigns, for example by highlighting a category of organizations supporting Ukraine or Gaza, or doubling campaigns from philanthropists. The purpose is to simplify giving and increase engagement, never to commercially favor a single organization.

Which nonprofits are shown on the site?

Organizations with a registered 90-account are directly welcome to become a recipient organization on Samfora. Smaller organizations that do not have the ability to run the process for a 90-account are also welcome if they run a serious nonprofit operation. Our requirements are then:

  • External auditor
  • The operation has been running for at least 3 years
  • Registered nonprofit as legal form
  • Bylaws that clearly state the organization's purpose

I can't find the organization I'm looking for.

Feel free to get in touch and we'll contact them. We talk with new organizations regularly and gratefully welcome suggestions.

Is it really safe to give to charity?

The Swedish nonprofit sector is more transparent than both the private and public sectors. Organizations continuously report how gifts are used and what impact they have.

For external review of administration and fundraising costs, see Swedish Fundraising Control

Why should I give via Samfora instead of directly to the organization?

The most important thing is that you give, not where. With us you get everything in one place: a historical overview of your giving, automatic tax deduction and insights over time. And 100% of your gift goes on to charity.

How does a donation work?

Via Swish, directly to your account. 100% of the donation always reaches your account, and we don't charge any platform fee or other fees.

Do we get free access to donors' personal information?

You get access to the information the donor has chosen to share with you. That is our promise to the donor: no organization gets access to more than the donor chooses to share. When the donor shares information (for example email, name or personal identity number for tax deduction) you get it directly and free of charge, in accordance with GDPR.

Don't we lose control over the donor journey if donations go through your platform?

No. You have full insight into the data that is shared and get access to all the information the donor chose to share, in accordance with GDPR. The donor journey is owned by you. You can export email and phone numbers via .csv export or an API connected directly to your CRM.

Can you pause your visibility or donations through the platform?

Yes. You can pause your visibility, donations or both at any time.

Who is behind Samfora?

Samfora was founded in 2025 by Philip Börjesson and Karl Laurentius Roos, with the ambition to improve civil society's technical tools. Previously they built the service Charity Funnel, which enabled over 1 million SEK in micro donations in connection with purchases in e-commerce.

How is Samfora financed if you enable free donations?

Samfora is financed by a group of Swedish and international angel investors with long experience from SaaS, fundraising, philanthropy and asset management. The investors include:

  • Mikael Ahlström, founder of the private equity firm Procuritas and Byggmästare Anders J Ahlström Holding AB, with a long background in philanthropy (the Chelha foundation, Alby Stiftelsen, Charity Rating).
  • Per Håkan Börjesson, founder and CEO of the listed investment company Spiltan Invest, author of several books on saving and investing that have sold over 400,000 copies.
  • Max Heger, former CEO and CFO at GodEl and GodFond.
  • Sam Jahanfar, CEO of the marketing platform Rule.
  • Wendy Andersen and Cristina Ljungberg, co-founders of the international fund The Case for Her.

Operators from Voyado, GodEl, Spiltan Invest, Rule, The Case for Her, Procuritas, Salesforce and Find my Factory have also invested. Samfora has additionally received grants from the innovation agency Vinnova and a loan from the state-owned Almi.

Who is on Samfora's board?

Karl Laurentius Roos (Chair) and Philip Börjesson (Director).

Will you run advertising on the platform?

No. We are committed to being a neutral actor toward both donors and nonprofits. We never run advertising on the platform, and we never favor particular content in exchange for money.

How do you ensure you remain a neutral actor?

We are politically, religiously and ideologically independent. We want to help donors discover new organizations, so the order of the organizations is randomized on every visit. Samfora will at times run its own fundraising campaigns with grouped organizations, for example for Ukraine or Gaza, or in connection with a philanthropist wanting to run a doubling campaign. That content is never linked to any financial compensation to Samfora.

Why don't you visualize Purpose, Fundraising and Administration cost?

We refer to Swedish Fundraising Control, which explains these metrics on its website.

Is it really free?

Yes. We never charge donors or organizations on Samfora.org. Fees from external parties, for example Swish merchant agreements or bank fees, are covered by the nonprofit.

What happens if the gift qualifies for tax deduction?

If the gift meets the requirements for tax deduction and the donor shares their personal identity number at the time of donation, you can easily export the personal identity numbers from your organization page.

How are monthly donations paid out?

All monthly donations are collected and paid out as a lump sum approximately every other week via Stripe.
